Purdue Pharmacy Vending Machine Program
About Us
The Purdue Pharmacy Vending Machines were implemented in 2021 through an interdisciplinary collaboration between the College of Pharmacy and the College of Health and Human Sciences as an initiative to provide students with 24/7 access to affordable over-the-counter (OTC) medications, contraceptives, and personal care products. The machines allow students to acquire these products without experiencing financial, privacy, and travel barriers. The 8 PhVMs are currently located inside the Córdova Recreational Sports Center (COREC), Wilmeth Active Learning Center (WALC), Hillenbrand Residence Hall, Ford Dining Hall, Earhart Residence Hall, Stewart Center, Material Sciences and Electrical Engineering Building (MSEE), and Rawls Hall.
Dr. Andrea
DeMaria
Associate Professor, Department of Public Health
Public Health Director
Dr. Andrea DeMaria is a tenured professor who joined the Purdue University faculty in August 2016. In addition to her Purdue University affiliations, she holds an adjunct appointment within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Dr. DeMaria’s women’s health research approach has utilized qualitative and quantitative methods—her findings inform program development, implementation, and evaluation in community and clinical settings to improve the lives of women and girls locally, nationally, and internationally.
Dr. DeMaria founded and directs the Interdisciplinary Women’s Reproductive Health Collaborative.
Canteen Vending Services
Purdue University is partnered with Canteen Vending, which is in affiliation with Compass Group USA. Because of this partnership, Canteen is responsible for stocking all campus vending machines.
In order to bring Pharmacy Vending Machines to our campus, we collaborated with Dave Hardy, Purdue's Strategic Sourcing Specialist for Vending, and Matthew Beaupre, General Manager at Compass Group North America.

Purdue's partnership with Canteen has allowed us to obtain vending machines at an affordable cost, as we do not have to individually purchase or stock our vending machines our program.
Dr. Nicole Noel
Director, Purdue University Pharmacy
Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice

After graduating from Purdue in 2008 with a doctorate in pharmacy, Dr. Nicole Noel worked in community pharmacy as a pharmacy manager to later establish Purdue's medication therapy management program as the Director of Purdue University Pharmacy.

Dr. Noel sources the products that we offer in our Pharmacy Vending Machines and collaborates with Canteen Vending in order to stock the machines. Our partnership with Purdue's pharmacy keeps prices low for our students as we can offer safe, generic medications that are already offered at our on-campus pharmacy.
 Our Research Lab
The Interdisciplinary Women's Reproductive Health Collaborative was founded by Dr. Andrea DeMaria in 2016. Since creating the lab, 76 undergraduate and graduate students from Purdue University have gained experience in collecting, analyzing, and developing manuscripts relating to women's reproductive health.

In 2017, Dr. DeMaria began offering the immersive, 7-week, 9-credit-hour study abroad opportunity, "Investigating Women's Reproductive and Sexual Health Issues in Florence, Italy". It was in Italy where Dr. DeMaria first saw sexual health machines. This inspired her to adopt a similar program at Purdue University, bringing the Purdue Pharmacy Vending Machine Program to life!
Student
Lead History
One of the unique aspects of the Purdue Pharmacy Vending Machine Program is that it has been majorly successful due to student involvement.

Program Funding
Our program is thankful to have the support of Purdue University's Office of the Provost and Department of Public Health.

Without the campus-wide support, our program would not be able to make as great of an impact on Boilermakers!
Purdue University now houses eight Pharmacy Vending Machines on campus. The growth of the program has been funded by the Office of the Provost.
